The Green Lions were due to have their long awaited Fans' Away Day against Whitehawk FC on Saturday (28th). It was set to be a great day for both sides as the trip coincided with Whitehawk FC's Community Day.
As we all know the actual game couldn't happen due to the suspension of the league due to the ongoing Covid-19 outbreak so instead we played out a ‘Virtual game’.
The game was played out as live on Twitter, and a JustGiving page was set up to raise funds for our partner charity, Guernsey Mind and The Hawks chosen charity, The Whitehawk Foodbank.
The script was put together by Whitehawk’s Commercial & Marketing Manager Kevin Miller and Theatre Producer and Whitehawk fan Paul Hodson with a little assistance from Guernsey FC's Communications Director Nic Legg.
The Big Virtual Match ended in an entertaining 6-6 draw. Guernsey found themselves 4-0 down before a Ross Allen goal on the stroke of half-time offered a lifeline.
The Green Lions completed an unbelievable comeback with Frank Tobin putting his side in the lead making it 6-5 with only one minute left on the clock, before Sobowale equalised for the home side with only seconds left. There was still time for more drama as The Hawks to get another, fortunately for Guernsey they were denied a dramatic late winner by the lineman's flag.
With the amazing support of both sets of fans, we raised a total an incredible amount, just short of £2,000 which will be split between Guernsey Mind and The Whitehawk Foodbank.
If you can help get us to reach the £2,000 mark donations can be made at: https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/whitehawk-ultras
