Green Lions kick off at home

Guernsey will start their Bostik Isthmian Division One South campaign at Footes Lane for the first time.

The release of the 2017-18 fixtures on Thursday morning revealed that the Green Lions will host East Grinstead Town on Saturday 12th August in the season's curtain raiser.

The Green Lions have kicked off their season away from home in each of the last four seasons that Tony Vance's side have been in the division, visiting Herne Bay, Chipstead, Three Bridges and Ramsgate respectively. This will be the first time GFC will be at home since beating Croydon 8-0 in the opening game of our 2012-13 Combined Counties Premier Division campaign. Guernsey beat the Wasps home (2-1) and away (1-0) last season.

The first away trip of the season is also the first of three scheduled midweek aways as the Sarnians head to Lewes on Wednesday 16th August, although this number is likely to rise. The others in the diary are Whyteleafe (Tuesday 12th September) and Molesey (Tuesday 14th November). Our midweek home matches are against the same three sides with Molesey on Wednesday 27th September, Lewes  on Wednesday 4th October and Whyteleafe on Weds 8th November.

Further good news is the fact that the Green Lions will also be at home on Boxing Day, with Horsham being the visitors. The Hornets will also be our opponents on the first Bank Holiday Monday fixture of the season, when we visit them on August 28th. Easter Monday sees Chipstead come to Footes Lane, with the reverse fixture being our new year's day match-up.

GFC have three new opponents this year, with the first one we are up against being Ashford United (a) on Saturday 23rd September, with the return fixture on Saturday 27th January. Shoreham visit Footes Lane on Saturday 18th November with our trip to the Sussex side being on Saturday 3rd February. We play VCD Athletic on Saturday 2nd December (h) and Saturday 17th February (a).

Two of our previous FA Cup opponents have moved over from Isthmian North. Thamesmead Town, who were the first ever visitors to Footes Lane in the FA Cup, visit again on Saturday 10th February, three months after we travel to them on Saturday 11th November. Phoenix Sports come to the Channel Islands on Saturday 6th January, while we host them in our final home match or the season on Sunday 22nd April.

Guernsey will have two early weekends off with the rest of the league taking part in the FA Cup (19th August) and FA Trophy (7th October) preliminary rounds, which the club has decided not to enter this year.

Our final match of the campaign will be a trip to Cray Wanderers on 28th April.
