Work to replace the current athletics track at Footes Lane with a full 400m eight-lane athletics track means Guernsey FC will spend the first few weeks of the 2019-20 season away from home.
But the plus side of that means that at some point later in the season, the Green Lions will have a bumper set of back-to-back home games for matchgoing fans to enjoy.
The track, infield and some of the surrounding land will be handed over to a contractor to start on site on Monday 20 May following the final big event of the football season – the 2019 Muratti. Footes Lane is scheduled to re-open at the beginning of October 2019.
As a result, the Bostik League has kindly agreed to arrange GFC's first few fixtures away from home until 14 September. If we are scheduled to play at home after that date but before Footes Lane work is finished, we have permission to switch our home and away fixtures with the scheduled opposition with their agreement. If they do not agree, we will have to hire a pitch in the UK to play our 'home' games on the mainland - but hopefully that will not be the case if our scheduled opposition agree to switch the home and away games.
The contractor is due to hand the facility back on 30 September. If all goes to plan, only one game would be affected and GFC has asked if it will be feasible to use the pitch and Garenne Stand in the last couple of weeks of the contract. However, we will not know until closer to the time if this will be possible.
Further information will follow as soon as we have it.
