Defender Harry Tobin could be Guernsey's next debutant as he is named in Tony Vance's first matchday squad of the season ahead of East Grinstead Town's visit to Footes Lane on Saturday.

Left-sider Tobin moved over to Guernsey around a year ago. He played in the Priaulx League for Northerners last season and was part of a young Guernsey squad that earned a bronze medal in this season's island games. He started training with the Green Lions this summer and caught the eye.

Vance will have to make the difficult choice of who to leave out, having named 19 players on his original list.

Ross Allen has proven his fitness after a hernia operation and has been included. Last season's breakout start Thomas Dodds also takes his place in the group, as does last season's top scorer Dave Rihoy.

Jamie Dodd has returned to the club and has been selected, while Leroi Riley has not yet recovered from the hand injury he sustained in the island games, so Vance will choose between Josh Addison and Jordan Kelly for the number one shirt.

The squad will be cut to 16 as the teamsheets are handed in, but Vance has name the following initial 19: Addison, Kelly, K Marsh, Geall, Mackay, Cochrane, Dodd, Tobin, Dodds, Gauvain, Skillen, De La Mare, Young, Heaume, Rihoy, Loaring, Heaume, Allen, Pereira.

The Green Lions are starting their Isthmian South campaign at home for the first time and will be after their third opening day win in five seasons at this level as they seek to earn a higher finish than last season's 21st. They are five goals shy of 700 in six years of history.

Pre-season saw several 'training games' against the local clubs plus a valiant 1-0 defeat to Championship side Bristol City.

East Grinstead Town finished 18th last season and have played nine pre-season games. The last three saw two victories and one defeat.

The pair have faced each other six times, with the Sarnians managing four victories to offset two defeats. Those wins included doing the double over the Wasps last season, 2-1 at Footes Lane - when midfielder Dodds netted his first goal for the club - while Rihoy scored in a 1-0 triumph away from home that became an important step to Guernsey's survival.
